Is There Really a Toy Shortage?

Is There Really a Toy Shortage?

Rumors have been circulating for months about a possible toy shortage... So I'm sure you're all curious to know - is it true?

As someone who has been in the ecommerce world for just over 5 years now, and my third season with Kringle Krate, I have a feeling it is true. Last month, several toy giants expressed concern over the upcoming holiday season citing the U.S. trade war with China, inclement weather, elevated raw material prices, and the global pandemic as possible causes for the shortages.

I myself have also noticed significant delays in getting raw materials. Purchase orders sitting idle for months with apology after apology from suppliers, packages delayed by USPS, increased pressure from customers - and I don't anticipate the issue getting better anytime soon.

So what can you do?

The obvious is to start shopping early, but there are other creative strategies you can employ to make sure your holiday season is free from any last-minute gift hiccups!

For example, if you are an Amazon shopper, utilize the "Add to List" feature. You can either individual lists for every person you are shopping for or you can create "Primary" and "Secondary" lists so if a gift becomes unavailable on your primary list, you can pull from a secondary list.

Next, expand your shopping circle! That's right - support our small businesses by attending holiday craft shows, lighting ceremonies where vendors are set-up, visiting small boutiques in your town, or seeking out individual makers in your friends group. I guarantee you'll find something unique that you just can't find on Amazon.

Third, shop other online marketplaces! I personally love Etsy and have purchased the most original gifts for family and friends. For example, a custom beer tap for my brother-in-law, a personalized necklace for my grandmother, and character themed bath bombs for my nieces and nephews.

Finally, remember the most important thing about the holidays is making memories with family and friends - so don't forget to pickup your Christmas Eve Boxes and stocking stuffers from The Kringle Krate's online boutique. Simply use the header menu to browse our available products for children and pet lovers.
